Benefits of Gypsum
01
Great source of Calcium & Sulphur
Where plants are more deficient in sulphur and the soil is not supplying enough, Gypsum is an excellent source of sulphur for plant nutrition and improving crop yield.
Calcium is also essential for most nutrients to be absorbed by the plants roots. Calcium helps stimulate root growth and assists in the uptake mechanisms.
02
Effect on Soil pH and Toxicity
Gypsum has no direct effect on acidic soils, but has ability to reduce toxicity which often accompanies soil acidity - particularly in subsoils - with the improvement of soil structure.
On very alkaline soils which have a high sodium content, gypsum can reduce this sodium content and consequently reduce the alkalinity of these soils.
Gypsum applications therefore make it possible to achieve deeper rooting plants resulting in improved crop benefits.
03
Improve Soil Structure
Clay dispersion and collapse of structure at the soil-air interface is a major contributor to crust formation, gypsum improves soil structure and helps disperse clay.
04
Improve Water Infiltration
Gypsum improves the ability of soil to drain and not become waterlogged. Gypsum allows water to move into the soil enabling the crop to grow well.
